Eduard 1/72 Bf 109E-1 ‘Adlerangriff’
This is a build of the Bf 109E-1 from the Eduard Adlerangriff (2136) set from 2021. In reality, it’s a rebox of the Special Hobby’s new tooled 109 that came just a year prior, in 2020. Of course, being a limited edition set, it came with some goodies like resin wheels, PE, masks and /a lot/ of markings and decals for your spares box. You can check out my first build from the boxing HERE.
I wish I could say the build was straighforward, but it definitely wasn’t. For all the details and riveting that the kit has, it fails at the most basic level – ease of build. None of the pins for fuselage allignment matched, the canopy is just a bit too big, the plane requires you to put in the engine (even if the engine cover is closed) to build it properly. Even that is a hard thing as the front of the fuselage is so wonky that a single wrong look at it makes it want to explode and misalign. Also, the rivets are so fine that a single pass of 1200 grit sandpaper removes half of them and you need to sand it that way due to the idiotic connection points. Also, this is on Eduard and not Special Hobby, but they give you one E-1 wing set and one E-3/E-4 set. It doesn’t seem an issue at first, but considering the amount of interesting markings, they could’ve splurged out for one more wing for each variant and not lock you in to just one…,
Other than all that, the build went quite well, they include the new eduard decals and I finally started to enjoy them.
For the camoflague, on the lower surfaces I used RLM 65 and on the upper I used RLM 02 and RLM 71 from AMMO MIG. The mottling was freehanded using an airbrush and I have to admit that I am very proud of it ^^. It’s a bit on the thicker side, but I like it that way and the build called for it anyway. It blends extremely well with the weathering which was a simple Tamiya wash and some black chaulk for the exhaust. Quite effective for a minimal investment of time and money.
Enough writing – lets look at the photos!
