M1937 47mm anti-tank gun “APX”

The French-made 47mm anti-tank gun is a peculiar piece. During its production and operational use by the French, it was one of the best anti-tank guns. It sported a penetration of 60 mm at 500 metres, which is more than enough to penetrate any German Panzer in 1940. Unfortunately, it didn’t live in its intended role for long as France collapsed during the summer of 1940. That left the Germans with almost a thousand pieces captured.

During the war, the guns were used as part of the defence on the Atlantic Wall, as part of anti-partisan units, as well as part of German makeshift anti-tank vehicles (a.k.a. Panzerjäger).

I unfortunately didn’t manage to take many photos and some actually corrupted, which is a real shame :/, but I hope that these will still be useful. They were taken in the Pivka park of Military History
