The white and red checker pattern on the MiG is something that every child in Croatia remembers seeing during parades and the occasional flyby. And I'm not different either. From when I started making model kits, 14 years ago, I wanted to build the famous "Kockica". It's such a beautiful sheme and unlike anything in the world. A whole plane painted in red and white squares. Shiny and clean; it's beautiful to me. So, when a year or so ago, a colleague of mine asked me if I could make this kit, I of course, said yes. there's no way I could've refused.
This can be said to have been the most challenging model kit that I ever built. It's definitely not due to the construction, as the Trumpeter kit (Trumpeter 02865) fits together like a glove and has plethora of details to go around. The reason it's so challenging is due to the paint sheme.
It took me quite a while to make it, as well as to research and measure the size of the checker pattern (which to my calculations is 1,6meters per single 'checker', but I may be wrong, so please check yourself), but it was all worth it in the end. I got a beautiful build and a one of my best works yet.
I decided to not put any washes on it as the original plane is never seen with any dirt or grime on it, but my colleague who commissioned the kit decided that they would like to see at least some light washes on it… (I'll fix that later...)
